China, Guizhou, Sandu, Shui cultures, probably 1st half 20th c.107 x 54 cm R.
Various silk fabrics. Embroidery: Various connected chain stitches, sequins. The contours in appliqué technique with fine gimp, using horsehair as an inlay. Woven borders appliquéd.
The trapezoidal part with a large bat shaped butterfly as the center. In the long stripe, different butterflies are found between clouds and treasure emblems. In some Miao cultures butterfly plays an important role, similar to the dragon in Han Chinese.
The textile was placed upside down in the frame.
